When Ernesto was a young child he was a defender himself of the weak and the helpless, he once told me............................... Story Ernesto told me today, when he was about 11 or 12 years old in New Mexico a haciendedo or owner of a large mass of land, when Ernesto was just a child was on his land and accidentally let some horses out of an area on his land, and the owner was on a large horse and made the horse step on Ernesto's bare feet stomping on him because of the mistake Ernesto made by letting the horses out, the Mexican workers looking on, telling Ernesto not to be upset, take it don't say annything, well little Ernesto was yelling at the haciendedo telling him to stop, the men around him did not help because they were afraid of losing their job. Well Ernesto had no shoes and was barefooted, he went home crossing the river with his feet bleeding and had wraped cloth around his feet, when he got home his mother asked him what happend to his feet and he told her he cut his feet crossing the river, it took about a month for his feet to heal (he never told her what happend) This is what Ernesto told me today at 93 years old... 11-1-08 and that's how life was........... I was just in tears when he told me this story.

Saludos a todos,
The Mexican Civic Society in conjunction with Larry Jones and Feed the Children is organizing relief efforts to help the people who have been devastated by the floods caused by the remnants of Hurricane Noel. This flood has been compared to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, but has left over 1million tabasquenos homeless, and 300,000 still trapped in their flooded homes, affecting over 530 municipalities in the state Tabasco alone. Larry Jones has committed to donating trailers of food, water and medical supplies to the people of Tabasco, and Eduardo Rodriguez, President of the Mexican Civic Society is coordinating a fund raising effort to pay for the transportation so the food and supplies may reach the destination.
Donations can be sent to the attention of the Mexican Civic Society of Illinois, 3760 W. 38th St., Chicago, Illinois Tel (773) 376-8445. The Mexican Civic Society is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization, and 100% of funds raised will go the relief effort. Thank you Tyche Hendricks for your story about my father Ernesto Nava.
When you wrote "The Living Link …" it was the best way to write this article.
What came out of this article was incredible. Many stories, lots of stories. One example is my sister-in-law Debbie calling me telling me she read the article in an airplane flying over Mexico. She started to talk to me about my brother Ray Nava, who has now deceased, who would tell her stories when they went on trips together to Cabo San Lucas. While flying in the airplane he would say look you see those mountains! That's where Pancho Villa and his men were at, nothing but open mountain range. This was a story that hit me to the core. There was also another story that impacted me. There was a woman I met from union city named Myrtle Pouer. She spoke about how her father had lunch in Durango with Pancho Villa .
After Pancho Villa took some cattle from him, he went looking for Pancho Villa. He asked "why did you take the cattle." Pancho Villa replied " I have to feed the people and a revolution to fight." This woman said that her father -in-law talked about this a lot.
Myrtle Pouer cooked dinner for my father Ernesto Nava and I. She told us to look at that book on the coffee table. She pointed out to us its not here just because you are having dinner with us tonight, but that it's always on the coffee table.
The following is a series of events that has taken -place:.. First trip took place in 1998. Ernesto Nava had not gone back to Mexico for 70 years and a had secret he kept to his mother Macedonia Ramirez for 80 years.
